Code of Conduct

Welcome to the GTC Wrestling family - it is expected that ALL members will show good sportsmanship always, please represent your club in the best possible light. Be honest, courteous, and respectful to everyone including opponents, their coaches and fans, as well as the officials. Be gracious in your losses and humble in your wins!

Wrestlers

I understand that as a member of the Grove Takedown Club my actions reflect upon not only myself, but my family, my fellow wrestlers, and my team.

  • I WILL  at all times display the conduct expected of me as a wrestler of the Grove Takedown Club.

​​

  • I WILL act in a sportsman-like manner consistent with the spirit of fair play and conduct myself in a way that will not in any way bring disrespect or dishonor to myself, my family, the Grove Takedown Club or my fellow wrestlers.

  • I WILL respect all members of the Grove Takedown Club, Coaches, my fellow wrestlers, and all tournament officials. 

​​

  • I WILL control my temper on and off the mat.

 

  • I WILL show respect to my opponent and their team by shaking hands at the conclusion of every match.​​

​​

  • I WILL show respect to all tournament officials. I will not openly criticize them. I will remember that they are in control of the match and will have the final word, even if the results are not in my favor. I will remember that they are human and they will make mistakes.

  • I WILL respect the property of others, whether personal or public. 

​​

  • I WILL conform to all rules and regulations that have been established for competitions, camps, and other activities in which I participate as a member of the Grove Takedown Club.

I understand that if I violate this code of conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary actions set forth by the Grove Takedown Club and its Board members, which may result in the loss of my ability to participate as a member of the Grove Takedown Club. 

Coaches

I understand that as a member of the Grove Takedown Club my actions reflect upon not only myself, but my family, my fellow coaches, and the club. I understand that as a GTC Wrestling volunteer/coach, I have assumed certain responsibilities that require me to prepare, develop, and be a role model.

  • I WILL be a positive role model to all wrestlers. I will...

    • Be consistent, and honest, and conduct myself in a way that is fair and just.​

    • Never verbally, emotionally, or physically abuse a wrestler or official, and will keep my public criticism constructive, and will never use profanity or be crude in front of wrestlers/parents. 

    • Be a good listener, consistently striving to learn to become a more effective communicator and coach.

    • Display emotional maturity, control, respect, and dignity, and be alert to the overall safety and well-being of all wrestlers.

  • I WILL contribute to establishing a club environment that is both competitive and safe. I will...

    • Adjust my coaching style and methods to the personal needs and concerns of EACH wrestler.​

    • Give ALL wrestlers the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence, and develop self-esteem by personally assisting ALL wrestlers (not just my own wrestler).

    • Run practices that are not only challenging but fun, while teaching age-appropriate skills.

    • Strive to teach wrestlers how to compete with intensity, while acting humble and fair.

    • Demand excellence in sportsmanship in both practice and competitions.

    • Be alert to any form of abuse from internal/external sources directed toward wrestlers in our care, and report suspicions to GTC board members.

    • Contribute to ensuring a coach or board member is present to supervise wrestlers in the practice room at all times.

    • Ensure that all club/school equipment, mats, facilities are being used appropriately.

  • I WILL strive for the greater good of the wrestling community.

    • Have a thorough knowledge of, while upholding, all aspects of OKWA/GTC Wrestling rules including safety and regulations, while encouraging parents and volunteers to do the same.

    • Strive for continuous improvement as a coach - pursue training to gain knowledge of the most recent rules, coaching techniques, and teaching methods for wrestling.

    • Maintain an open line of communication with wrestlers and their parents/guardians, explain the goals/objectives of the club and consistently enforce team policies with fairness with an appreciation for individual differences.

    • Be concerned with the overall athletic and human development of wrestlers, stressing good health habits and cleanliness, while educating parents on the larger role sports play in the development of a child, and encourage athletes to seek medical attention when ill/injured.

    • Strive to keep the concepts of winning and losing in proper perspective - winning is always a goal, but not the most important one.​​

I have read the responsibilities outlined above, and I clearly understand what is expected of me as a GTC Wrestling volunteer/coach. I agree to its terms and conditions and understand that failure to adhere to this code of conduct will subject me to disciplinary actions set forth by the Grove Takedown Club and its Board members, which may result in my permanent suspension from the Grove Takedown Club and its athletes.
